‘Kate’s Not Here’ comes directly from the soundtrack of The Turning, a horror film directed by Floria Sigismondi. The track is simultaneously unsettlingly atmospheric and catchily upbeat. Fast hi-hats quietly drive the rhythm forward, but it’s the powerful main melody that draws the focus throughout. Girl in red explains how the song came about: “I made this song in the back of my tour bus, a studio in LA and on a bed in Sydney. I like that the melody carries the song so much and think it slaps tbh”. Her 2020 is going pretty well already, having appeared on the cover of Gay Times and recently been announced for Coachella.
